Job Description Conduct audits by independently performing office investigations using a personal computer to ensure individuals or businesses are correctly reporting and computing their Iowa tax liability. If adjustments are necessary, prepare audit schedules which detail all adjustments made. Cite statutory authority to support all adjustments. Determine the correct amount of refund due the taxpayer or the additional amount of taxes, penalty, and interest owed by the taxpayer. Assist with development of selective audit criteria for office examinations, planning of activities for specific assignments, and performing office examinations in order to initiate the billing process. Communicate with the Examination Team on specific audit problems and application of laws to unusual transactions. 

Additionally, resolve tax returns and amended returns that have gone to review and make needed corrections. Assign appropriate coding on transactions and returns for correspondence and resolution. Monitor the system for needed changes and make recommendations to the appropriate staff. Assist with establishing and reviewing measurements to monitor processes. 

Effectively communicate with taxpayers and tax practitioners concerning an audit. Prepare recommendations on requests for waiver of penalty. Advise taxpayers of their rights to protest. 

Essential Functions:
Demonstrate knowledge of accounting methods and auditing procedures and use of personal computer software to prepare audit schedules and obtain data: Ability to learn and correctly apply department procedures, rules, and regulations: Ability to meet and accomplish program objectives and performance goals: Demonstrate ability and willingness to learn new programs and complete tax laws pertaining to a variety of taxes: Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing: and work independently and make objective and accurate decisions. Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a minimum of nine semester or equivalent course work hours in accounting, business administration, or finance.
