Iowa Legal Aid Disaster Relief Project provides information and legal assistance to low-income disaster survivors. Their network of volunteer attorneys can assist with:

  • Insurance issues
  • Housing - renters
  • Housing – owners
  • Contractor fraud issues
  • Document replacement

The American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division has teamed with FEMA to create the Disaster Legal Services program to help survivors navigate the aftermath of declared disasters. The program provides immediate temporary legal assistance at no charge in these areas:

  • Insurance claims
  • New wills
  • Powers of attorney
  • Other legal papers lost during the disaster
  • Problems with Landlords
  • FEMA appeals
